According to tales, a coffee taste discovered when ships would transport coffee beans in large - and fairly unsealed - cargo holds, across continents, the beans would swell, lose their acidity and arrive to new shores quite changed in character.
The days of the old merchant sailing ships have passed. But the love of these beans has remained and the taste now achieved from exposing the stored beans to the air and winds on the Malabar coastal belt during the monsoon season. This coffee now has protected status under India’s Geographical Indications of Goods Act, being produced only in the Malabar coast region. The harvested beans are exposed to the monsoon winds and rains for up to four months, swelling the bean. These larger-than-average beans have a greatly-lowered acidity, resulting in a mellow and smooth coffee with a malty finish.
Absolutely unique and a real treat for coffee lovers looking to try a new coffee.

Thank you for my latest consignment of Monsooned Malabar coffee. It has an amazingly wonderful aroma and lovely smooth taste. It’s suitable for drinking at anytime of day and evening, I’ll be in touch soon for another batch!
Makes an earthy espresso without the bitterness of others. I travel with a hand espresso machine and wherever I go friends and colleages are impressed with the Malabar. As always online shopping at Tugboat is a pleasure and delivery prompt.
Tugboat service is fantastic but I have bought Monsoon Malabar from different companies including Tugboat for years and this seemed not quite its usual self. I have always found it wonderfully intense and flavoursome but this seemed rather weak in taste and strength.
